February Frenzy: Day 27

Today I am frantically working on my last sock of the month:

February Frenzy: Day 26

Socks, socks, socks. If you hadn't noticed, I'm trying to replenish my sock drawer by knitting most of my self-striping socks by the end of March, and since I'm doing it for the Harry Potter House Cup group on Ravelry, I need to hit the 50% deadline on the four pairs I signed up for by the end of this month. This is sock #3:

Sock #4 should be finished on time as well, since it's also plain stockinette, but it's gonna be close!

Two more, what will they be?

More wheel time. I think I need to take a class, I've definitely got the basics but I want to learn more and I think in-person might be the way to go for this.

February Frenzy: Day 20

Not only did I spend my class time getting most of a cat bed done, I also listened to my knitterly senses when on the third row of the second layer of the cat bed I had an overwhelming urge to count and realized I slip stitched to the first dc instead of the chain on the first row, leaving me one repeat off. This would have been very, very bad if I hadn't caught it!

February Frenzy: Day 13

On the 13th, I finished that cross stitched card because it was due on the 14th! I was pretty happy with how it turned out, even if the sentiment is a bit creepy (yes, I think the "you complete me" idea to be weird - your strengths are complimentary to mine, cool, but "...complete me"? Yikes!):

I made my own chart for this for a couple of reasons. You can find both free and non-free charts online, but all of them use partial pieces to make the heart! Yes, I understand that the long piece is usually the one you're waiting for in Tetris and it makes it very easy to see how it fits into the heart, but come on, you are not a Tetris player if you are willing to stitch a Tetris heart that doesn't fit together right!

Obligatory Backside

While mine doesn't use the long piece, it does all fit together nicely, is a good size for a card, and made me happy! I also completed the "completion" theme with book 3 of the Millennium (Stieg Larsson) series and book 4 of the Otherland (Tad Williams) series, completing those incomplete series on our bookshelf. Not that we'll have time to read them anytime soon, but they're complete now!

Paper to line it so it looks like a Real Card

February Frenzy: Day 12

I did a Stash Update so I knew how much yarn I'd used in January. Yep, I almost forgot about the monthly update!

I didn't use much, it only went down 300 yards. So it's pretty much the same as last month, and I sadly do not yet have my file back. I'm still holding out hope that for the next update, I'll have my data.

Moar List:

February Frenzy: Day 11

Today I did a simple task, I took lots of pictures to organize my new yarn. I decided to make those frilly scarves for my aunts this Christmas, so picked up five skeins at a sale a couple of weeks ago. Example:

February Frenzy: Day 10

I read papers for school, so I knit on a very easy stockinette sleeve:

List is growing:

Day 1: Sheldon Pirate Shell (modifying hat, not yet finished)
Day 2: Bear Hat
Day 3: V-Day Cross Stitch (stitched, not yet finished)
Day 4: Sock #1 (finished! but needs a mate)

Day 10: Sleeve (sleeve is done, but not the rest of the sweater!)

February Frenzy: Day 9

I started a cross stitch the other day and tried to add the next bit, a word in backstitched script using sparkly thread. I learned that the alphabet I was trying to use really needs a space in between the letters for the thread and cloth combination I'm using:

Nine things!

Day 1: Sheldon Pirate Shell (modifying hat, not yet finished)

February Frenzy: Day 8

On Friday I gave a learn-to-knit class for the Purdue Makers Club and made a coaster as the demonstration piece:

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft.
Needles: US10/6.0mm
Timeframe: February 8, 2012
Mods: Knit 'til it was square rather than for 4.5" as written.
Problems: None!

It's a nice, quick project that has knit and purl and all the necessary beginning steps for beginning knitters, and can (mostly) get done in 2 hours.

What's Goin' On:

Day 1: Sheldon Pirate Shell (modifying hat, not yet finished)
Day 2: Bear Hat
Day 3: V-Day Cross Stitch (stitched, not yet finished)

Feburary Frenzy: Day 7

I made the first of two booties at a knit night on the 7th:

Now it just needs a mate. I finished the matching hat today too, so there's one of my February projects finished, and got all the stitching done for my cross stitch.

Keeping track:

Day 1: Sheldon Pirate Shell (modifying hat, not yet finished)
Day 2: Bear Hat
Day 3: V-Day Cross Stitch (stitched, not yet finished)
Day 4: Sock #1 (finished! but needs a mate)

February Frenzy: Day 6

On the sixth day of February, my needles made for me:

Some progress on a sock. A tall sock. One that will be a knee sock and is currently roughly 15" in circumference. It's gonna take awhile.

Growing List:

Day 1: Sheldon Pirate Shell (modifying hat, not yet finished)
Day 2: Bear Hat (needs ears, not yet finished)
Day 3: V-Day Cross Stitch (mostly stitched, not yet finished)

Day 6: Sock #2 (not even close)

February Frenzy: Day 5

On the 5th day of February, I dyed some roving:

I measured out and braided up 4 oz (114 grams) of roving:

Then I got my dyeing crock pot ready and added one packet of Kool-Aid per ounce of roving, so three green packets and one blue to give it a deeper green:

I cooked the yarn for most of an hour, until the dye bath was mostly colorless:

Finally, I had my finished roving, ready to spin:

It's a little bit mottled in places and because I braided it, I'm sure that it will have spots of white and lighter green throughout. I wanted something with character, which is why I dyed it this way, so I'm sure I'll love spinning it up!

The List:

Day 1: Sheldon Pirate Shell (modifying hat, not yet finished)
Day 2: Bear Hat (needs ears, not yet finished)
Day 3: V-Day Cross Stitch (mostly stitched, not yet finished)
Day 4: Sock #1 (finished! but needs a mate)
Day 5: Dyed Roving (finished! but needs to be spun)

February Frenzy: Day 4

I have finished a sock:

Just one sock. Its mate will be started after I finish three other socks (and a bunch of other things), so probably not this month. By the end of next month, I should have four new pairs of socks to wear, which is more than I've made for myself in the last two years!

A List, because I like lists:

Day 1: Sheldon Pirate Shell (modifying hat, not yet finished)
Day 2: Bear Hat (needs ears, not yet finished)
Day 3: V-Day Cross Stitch (mostly stitched, not yet finished)
Day 4: Sock #1 (finished! but needs a mate)

February Frenzy: Day 3

I promise they won't all be webcam shots, but here's at least one more:

This one is an adorable cross stitch I can't wait to show off. Of course, I have to finish it first. I'm planning to put it in a handmade card, so this gets to be one of those projects that counts for two days, one for the stitching (the 3rd), and one for the card (sometime before the 14th).

Here's a handy list to start keeping track of the projects:

Day 1: Sheldon Pirate Shell (modifying hat, not yet finished)
Day 2: Bear Hat (needs ears, not yet finished)
Day 3: V-Day Cross Stitch (half stitched, not yet finished)

February Frenzy: Day 2

Tiny webcam photo, because that's how I turned it in:

I nearly finished a baby hat for a pregnant coworker. I think the real question/challenge will be, how many projects can I not only work on each day, but also finish? I know that there will be at least six projects that will each get a day to shine but won't be finished by the end of the month, four pairs of socks for my Harry Potter House Cup OWL and a sweater for my HPHC Mission along with an Art of Disney cross stitch. When I get desperate towards the end, I have three other in-progress cross stitches and four other WIPs I can think of that I can easily get another row in for, but I'm hoping to finish most of the rest. I'm also planning to give each baby booty its own day, and I have at least three other projects that can be two days themselves, so there won't be twenty-some finished projects this month, just a lot of pictures.

February Frenzy: Day 1

One of my groups on Ravelry is doing a February Frenzy this month. The rules are simple, you must work on a new/different thing every day of the month. It can be starting a new project, pulling out an old project, organizing your yarn and projects, working on a part of a project (like one Granny Square for a blanket), or anything really, as long as you haven't yet touched it in February. You must also post a picture of your daily project the next day. Just based on the number of projects I'm planning (hoping) to work on this month, I should easily hit 20, and then we might start having difficulties. Or I might just start pulling out tiny ornament cross stitches to start and then put aside for later. Or do the smart thing and pull out the WIPs I wasn't counting and do a row or two.

Anyway, Day 1:
